An established engineering business in Skelmersdale is looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to strengthen its design capability. This role would suit a high–calibre, self–starting engineer with strong experience in bespoke machinery and equipment design.

You’ll be part of a collaborative design team, responsible for delivering complete mechanical design packages from concept through to manufacture, using Solid Works and recognised engineering standards.

As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical designs, producing accurate 3D models, detailed fabrication drawings and supporting technical documentation. You’ll be involved throughout the full design lifecycle, working closely with internal teams and customers to deliver robust, manufacturable solutions.

• Design and development of new and existing mechanical products and machinery
• Create 3D models, detailed fabrication drawings and assemblies using Solid Works
• Produce bills of materials and supporting technical documentation
• Interpret and translate customer requirements into practical design solutions
• Ensure designs meet industry standards, customer specifications and internal procedures
• Carry out design reviews with internal teams and, where required, customers
• Apply mechanical engineering principles, calculations and analysis to designs
• Use FEA and hand calculations to validate designs where required
• Support manufacturing with technical input and design clarification

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
• Experience in bespoke machinery or equipment design
• Strong Solid Works experience in an engineering environment
• Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles
• Experience producing fabrication drawings and knowledge of manufacturing processes
  
  Working knowledge of FEA and hand calculations
• Excellent attention to detail and strong problem–solving skills
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work to deadlines in a fast–paced engineering environment

  40,000 GBP
  45,000 depending on experience
