Depot Manager

Location:

Skelmersdale
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum

Reports to:

Operations Manager
Direct Reports:
Forklift Operators & Warehouse/Yard Operators

We're looking for a proactive and experienced Depot Manager to lead and develop our depot operations.

In this hands‑on leadership role, you'll ensure safe, efficient, and high‑performing daily operations including Goods In, Stock Rotation, and Goods Out, all while maintaining the highest level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environment:
Ensure safe and legally compliant depot operations. Manage staff inductions, audits, and adherence to H&S policies. Monitor all depot equipment and maintain compliance.

Depot Operations Management:
Lead depot staff, contractors, and visitors ensuring smooth operation. Maintain asset security and operational standards. Drive efficiency within warehouse and yard processes. Oversee Goods In: accurate checking, storing, and booking‑in of stock. Oversee Goods Out: ensure correct picking, packing, labelling, and safe loading. Manage vehicle checks, forklift checks, and tacho downloads. Communicate effectively with internal departments to support customer satisfaction.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organised depot environment.

Reporting & Administration:
Report incidents and operational issues to management. Provide updates on performance, stock discrepancies, and cost implications.

HR & Leadership:
Manage HR‑related matters including performance and attendance. Recruitment & Leadership:
Recruit and develop depot staff as required. Create a positive team culture built on leadership and continuous improvement.

Qualifications
  • GCSE/O‑Level education.
  • Management qualification (desirable).
  • Forklift/telescopic licence (desirable).
  • Full driving licence.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Understanding of transport operations and O‑Licence compliance.
  • Experience with in warehouse operations.
  • Product knowledge (advantageous).
Skills
  • Strong leadership and people management.
  • Planning, coordination, and problem‑solving strengths.
  • Ability to work within budgetary requirements.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office and internal systems such as INTACT.
