About the RoleWe are looking for a proactive and compassionate Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to support children with a range of needs, including:
- Autism (ASD)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- ADHD
- Communication and interaction difficulties
- Complex learning needs
- Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
You will work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams to deliver personalised teaching and learning, behaviour support strategies, and emotional regulation interventions. This role is perfect for someone who is resilient, creative, calm under pressure and deeply committed to helping children reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities- Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with diverse SEN needs
- Implement EHCP targets
, tailored interventions and adapted learning activities - Use strategies such as visual timetables, sensory regulation tools, PECs/communication aids
, and emotional regulation frameworks - Build positive, trusting relationships with students to promote engagement, independence and confidence
- Support learning inside the classroom, in specialist settings, and during outdoor or community-based activities
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and external professionals
- Contribute to creating a safe, structured and supportive learning environment
- Manage behaviour using positive behaviour support (PBS) and trauma-informed approaches
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in:
- SEN / SEND education
- Care, social care, youth work or residential support
- Behaviour support roles
- Autism support, SEMH support or alternative provisions
Essential qualities include:
- A caring and empathetic nature
- Strong communication skills
- Patience, resilience and adaptability
- A passion for supporting vulnerable children
- Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience with Team Teach

, Nurture Principles
, TEACCH
, or Zones of Regulation - Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
- Knowledge of SEND strategies and behaviour frameworks
