Principal Data Engineer

Salary: £50,000 - 70,000 per year

• Strong knowledge of cloud‑native data platforms such as lakehouse, warehouse, and streaming systems
• Strong knowledge of modelling approaches including medallion, dimensional, event‑driven, and semantic layers
• Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks and metadata tooling
• Strong knowledge of data lineage, cataloguing, discovery, and documentation
• Strong knowledge of data quality and observability tooling
• Strong knowledge of data access and security patterns
• Skilled in standardising and creating reusable data frameworks, templates, and modules
• Experience in people leadership, including performance management, wellbeing, and personal and professional development
• Demonstrated delivery of measurable improvements in data quality, data availability, pipeline reliability, or delivery speed
• Experience partnering with governance, cyber, environments, and QE teams to enable safe, observable, governed data change

• Define the tenets, patterns, and architectural expectations that guide how data is ingested, modelled, governed, and made available across the organisation
• Bring clarity to ambiguous data problems
• Balance speed with safety
• Make decisions that raise the organisational bar
• Support the Senior Data Engineering Leader and Product Owner in decision making and execution of team responsibilities within an Azure environment

We are partnered with Skipton Building Society for a permanent Principal Data Engineer opportunity based in Skipton, North Yorkshire, with a hybrid working pattern of three days per week in the office.
