Sonographer – Weekend Program

Join Ochsner Health as a Sonographer on our Weekend Program. You will work in collaboration with staff radiologists to perform advanced diagnostic ultrasound procedures and provide clinical mentorship.

Sign‑On Bonus
:
Up to $20,000 for eligible candidates.

Referral Bonus
:
Up to $5,000 for eligible candidates.

Qualifications

Education
:
Completion of a CAHEA approved formal training program in diagnostic medical sonography.

Work Experience
:
None required.

Preferred
: 2 years of sonographer experience.

Certifications
:

  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) or registry eligible (required within 1 year of hire).
  • Advanced certification in areas of specialty according to facility need.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Proficiency in computers, software, and web‑based applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Knowledge of abdominal anatomy (liver, gallbladder, aorta, spleen, kidneys, bile ducts, pancreas) and ability to perform abdominal ultrasound and identify pathology.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including 24/7, weekend, holiday, and on‑call availability.
Job Duties
  • Verify physician orders and procedures for accuracy.
  • Use radiology information systems to facilitate patient care.
  • Explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding.
  • Operate imaging equipment independently to complete procedures per protocol, assisting radiologists with guided procedures as needed.
  • Review patient images before transmission to ensure diagnostic quality standards.
  • Complete quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and perform necessary notifications/remediation.
  • Assist in departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, respecting privacy and communicating appropriately.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Physical and Environmental Demands

The role requires medium physical effort, including moving objects between 10 to 50 pounds, and exposure to blood, body fluids, and potential communicable diseases. Occupational risks include hazardous medications and hazardous waste handling.
