Shipfitting is considered the primary area of expertise, under general supervision, and requires the performance of all tasks assigned by management based on the needs of the business. This role is in the Land Systems business area.

• Perform duties of a Senior Ship fitter on a daily basis.
• Typical job duties involve structural fitting and tack welding of various assembly and sub‑assembly parts on the vehicle.
• Work from engineering drawings, sketches and written and verbal instructions.
• Maintain records, forms and logs as required.
• Use MIG and TIG welders, mechanical, pneumatic, cordless and electric tools including power tools, clamps, hammers, gougers, grinders, saws, band saws, drills, tapes and scales.
• Handle chemicals and solvents such as alcohol, cleaning solvents, cutting oil, tool oil.
• Maintain shop and work area housekeeping.
• Visually inspect work against drawings and sketches for completeness and dimensional correctness.
• Direct the activities or tasks of helpers as assigned.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

Education: High school diploma or General Education Diploma.

Position Requirements:

• Three (3) years of related fabricating or shipfitting/fitting experience.
• Formal craft training that demonstrates the ability to read blueprints, engineering drawings and sketches, layout and fabricate parts and assemblies correctly.
• Demonstrated skills based on shipfitting/welding test results.
• Safety conscious (wear proper PPE at all times).
• Follow written and verbal instructions.
• Read and understand metric and standard dimensions (a plus).
• Regularly lift, move or carry 40 pounds of material.
• Willing to work rotating shifts and extended hours as needed.
• Ability to become certified as a forklift and overhead crane operator.
• Obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.

Physical demands include postural, dexterity, cardiorespiratory, and general physical activities such as standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, squatting, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders and stairs. Physical demand level:
Medium (lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling not to exceed 60 lbs).
