This collaborative role works with residents, fellows, attendings, and staff caring for outpatient clinic patients. The position reports to the Medical Director or a qualified staff physician and partners with PCCs, staff nurses, and discharge coordinators in planning, implementing, and evaluating medical and nursing care. Key responsibilities include primary and urgent medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill patients, teaching residents and medical students, providing staff development and education, patient education, and discharge planning.
NursePractitioner or Physician Assistant Education
Nurse Practitioner: Master’s degree in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduation from an approved Physician Assistant Training Program
Work ExperienceNurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant: None required
Preferred: 3 years’ related working experience
Certifications- Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice (Nurse Practitioner)
- Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified for Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (Nurse Practitioner)
- Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner)
- License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice, NCCPA Certified (Physician Assistant)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (Physician Assistant)
- Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing (Physician Assistant)
- Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of Advanced Practice Provider policies and protocols at a department and campus/system level.
- Reliable transportation as must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability).
- Utilizes the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
- Provides care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria, appropriate to the ages of patients served in assigned areas.
- Maintains an attitude of inquiry toward medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology.
- Provides education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, communication style, and obtaining permissions.
- Performs other related duties as required.
