Psychology, Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) – Slippery Rock University

The Psychology Department at Slippery Rock University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2024. The Psychology Department is strategically located within the newly created College of Health Professions, which offers an excellent education for students seeking to enter the health and/or mental health fields. Our mission includes providing high quality undergraduate education, leading to diverse post-graduate and career pathways.

The department offers 10 different programs, including pre-counseling, developmental, neuroscience, and others, enabling students to focus on areas of interest and develop their goals. We seek to engage students in interdisciplinary research and provide leadership opportunities to enable them to develop their skills. The position is for a 9-month contract, with regular opportunities for optional summer and winter teaching. Responsibilities:
The applicant will have a 4/4 teaching load of undergraduate courses. Faculty members have autonomy to develop their teaching, research, and service activities commensurate with their interests and professional goals. There are a multitude of opportunities to create interdisciplinary communities and partnerships in the department, at the university level, and within the larger community.

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in Psychology (i.e., Ph.D., Ed.D., or Psy.

D.) is required. ABD applications will be accepted; the doctoral degree must be completed by August 1, 2024.

The candidate for the position must have the ability to establish an active research program, with a commitment to mentoring undergraduate students in research, and must demonstrate a commitment to the education of diverse populations. Successful performance in an on-campus interview, research presentation, and teaching demonstration on a topic area chosen by the search committee are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with one or more of the following experiences will be an especially good fit for the department. University-level teaching experience, especially for face-to-face classes and/or formal training in higher education teaching is preferred, along with specific experience teaching courses such as Abnormal Psychology, Introduction to Clinical Psychology, Psychological Testing, Research Methods, Statistics, or Introduction to Psychology. In addition, graduate level coursework in clinical or counseling psychology;

interest in and/or ability to show dedication to service at department and university levels; experience in teaching APA-style writing across the curriculum are preferred.

Area of focus and specialization is open, but we particularly encourage those with Clinical or Counseling degrees from APA-accredited programs, or experience with clinical populations or the provision of mental health services to apply.
