An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Core Clinical Fellow in Microbiology to join the dynamic Infection team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust
. Based at Wexham Park Hospital, this post offers hands‑on experience in clinical microbiology within a large, collaborative department at the forefront of infection care.

Working under the supervision of Consultant Microbiologists, you will support the delivery of safe, effective infection services, including telephone and ward‑based clinical advice, weekly infection‑focused ward rounds (e.g. Critical Care, Antimicrobial Stewardship,

C. difficile, Haematology, and Cystic Fibrosis), and active involvement in education, audit, and research.

You’ll be part of a well‑supported team contributing to internal teaching, external educational events, and multidisciplinary clinical liaison across the Trust. This post offers a strong foundation for doctors considering a future career in infection specialties.

Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise and have successfully completed the UK Foundation Programme or equivalent.

The Core Clinical Fellow in Microbiology at Wexham Park Hospital will play an integral role in the delivery of clinical infection services across Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. Under consultant supervision, the postholder will provide ward‑based and telephone advice on infection‑related issues, supporting weekly multidisciplinary ward rounds in key clinical areas including Critical Care, Haematology, Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Cystic Fibrosis, and Antimicrobial Stewardship.

The role includes active participation in departmental teaching for nurses, junior doctors, and medical students, as well as attendance at external educational meetings and courses. The postholder will contribute to departmental research, audits, and clinical governance initiatives, and undertake administrative duties such as letter writing and data compilation. They will also liaise with other departments, general practitioners, and external agencies.

• Provide supervised clinical advice on infection‑related issues via telephone and ward consultations, including participation in specialist ward rounds (e.g. ICU, Haematology, Cystic Fibrosis, Antimicrobial Stewardship).
• Engage in education and teaching, contributing to training sessions for nurses, junior doctors, medical students, and departmental visitors.
• Participate in research, audit, and clinical governance projects to support continuous improvement and patient safety within the microbiology service.
• Perform administrative duties, including correspondence, data collation, and departmental documentation.
• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams, GPs, and external agencies to ensure cohesive and effective infection management across the Trust.

• Full GMC registration

• Additional postgraduate qualification such as MSc, MD or PhD

• Competent in procedures e.g. CPR, infection control, physical examination, history taking etc
• Able to prioritise clinical need
• Aware of own limitations, consults senior colleagues appropriately and knows when to ask for help

• Clinical experience in General Medicine or equivalent
