SEN Teacher required for a specialist school in Slough. This inclusive school caters for students aged 2-19 with complex needs, SLD and/or other additional needs.

This role involves planning and delivering highly individualised, engaging, and meaningful lessons that consider cognitive, communication and sensory profiles to low level learners. You will work collaboratively with therapists and other professionals to embed therapeutic strategies into daily teaching. Use augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC) including high-tech (e.g., communication devices/apps) and low-tech systems (e.g., PECS, Sign:

Along, visual supports). Build strong relationships with families and contribute positively to home-school communication. Play an active role in annual reviews and contribute to Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) processes. As a result, pupils thrive, achieve a variety of qualifications and develop into confident, articulate and ambitious young adults.

Responsibilities

The teacher will be responsible for the progress of all pupils in their specialism and for coordinating the work of a team of SEN teaching assistants, providing required direct teaching time to meet the needs of the class groups and pupils. You will look at pupils holistically, drawing on a wide range of social care and teaching strategies to meet pupils’ needs whilst promoting interest and ensuring the safety and well-being of pupils.

You will deliver lessons that are pupil-focused and creative, according to an agreed timetable.

Qualifications
  • Special needs teachers should be committed to the development of themselves and the pupils.
  • Hold QTS or QTLS.
  • Deliver outstanding teaching and learning alongside a multi-disciplinary classroom team.
  • Have experience of taking the lead in your subject area and have clear ideas of how to achieve exceptional progress for students.
  • Be ambitious in your expectations of pupils and ensure they fulfil their potential.
  • Maintain a calm demeanour and a sense of humour under pressure.
  • Understand and be committed to safeguarding children.

Additional Requirements
  • Experience of SEN/complex needs, SLD or PMLD.
  • Experience in primary, secondary, or post-16 settings.
