Job Overview

Location:

Burnham.
Pay: £92.63 per day.

Hours:

8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday.

We are currently looking for a committed, resilient and empathetic Behaviour Support Mentor to join a Pupil Referral Unit in Burnham, working with secondary‑aged pupils who have been excluded from mainstream education. This role offers the chance to have a real and lasting impact on young people who often face significant barriers to learning, including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour.

As a Behaviour Support Mentor you will:

  • Support students in both one‑to‑one and small group settings, helping them rebuild confidence, re‑engage with education and develop more positive patterns of behaviour.
  • Act as a stable and trusted adult, helping pupils form appropriate relationships, regulate their emotions and move towards more positive life choices.
  • Manage behaviour and de‑escalate difficult situations, setting firm but fair boundaries while maintaining a supportive and respectful approach.
  • Build rapport quickly with young people who may have had disrupted or difficult educational experiences.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience in SEMH support roles, youth work, sports coaching, prison or probation services, social care or other positions involving behaviour management and mentoring vulnerable individuals is desirable.
  • An interest in sport or physical activity is beneficial.
  • Equally valued is a right attitude, resilience and a genuine desire to support young people to make positive change.
Remuneration & Hours

This is a full‑time, term‑time position within a supportive team environment, offering consistent working hours and the opportunity to be part of meaningful progress in pupils’ lives. Salary / pay rate will be dependent on skills and experience.
