Academics is working with a welcoming primary school in Slough that is looking to appoint an SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join their dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity to provide tailored support to pupils who require additional emotional, behavioural, and learning support within a nurturing and inclusive school environment.
As an SEMH Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping them build confidence, regulate their emotions, and engage positively with learning throughout the school day.
Responsibilities- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs through tailored 1:1 and small group interventions
- Encouraging children to develop emotional regulation, resilience, and positive coping strategies
- Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to deliver consistent support
- Implementing behaviour support strategies and contributing to personalised intervention plans
- Promoting a positive, inclusive, and emotionally supportive learning environment
- Building strong relationships with pupils to encourage engagement, independence, and personal growth
- Is patient, compassionate, and committed to supporting children with additional needs
- Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Is proactive, adaptable, and confident working with pupils who require extra emotional support
- Is considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, counselling, youth work, social work, or another child‑focused profession
