Senior Public Health Engineer - LondonArup’s public health engineers tackle diverse challenges – from sustainable strategies to fire suppression systems, and from drainage in high-rise buildings to supplying ultra-pure water and piping specialist gases and fluids for healthcare, science and industry facilities. Together with our mechanical and electrical engineers, we provide integrated building services to our clients.
The OpportunityBased in London, we have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Public Health Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary Building Engineering design team to work on a variety of projects across all sectors. This includes Commercial, Residential, Science & Industry and retrofit. Projects will include both new and existing building developments. You will be articulate, technically strong and able to evidence your ability to understand the commercial environment in which we operate.

We work in an interdisciplinary environment and aim to formulate Public Health Systems that maximise value for our clients whilst minimising environmental impact. You will play an active role in all stages of our projects from feasibility through to completion across a number of sectors and countries.
Within this dynamic team, you will have the opportunity to grow and explore your areas of interest, take ownership of deliverables and develop innovative solutions to technical problems. You will be part of the full project lifecycle from inception - developing briefs and design concepts in conjunction with others, calculation, modelling and design of public health engineering systems from concept to tender phase;
through to construction and handover. An ability to embrace, adapt and adopt digital working methods, including setting out workflows, automations and working with AI tools is also expected.
- Lead be responsible for the production of drawings and reports and preparing public health specifications (with other members of the design team) to ensure delivery to agreed project time frames and budget
- Undertaking a sustainable approach to system design including domestic hot and cold water services, natural gas systems, above and below ground drainage systems, rainwater collection and disposal systems, water conservation and recycling, pollution control and waste management and treatment and fire protection systems
- Some supervising and coordinating the work of small to medium size teams, and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines and external design team members
- Involvement in contract administration, contractor query resolution, QS and financial advice. Being part of a multi-disciplinary building design team
- On smaller projects, you may act as a sole engineer in the design team and contractor meetings
- Carry out technical reviews of designs including calculations and 3D spatial reviews of models
We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer with excellent design, technical, management and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams, taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results.
You will have achieved a professional qualification with CIBSE and have proven experience in the field of Public Health Engineering Systems for the built environment. You will be committed to your own professional development.
