Are you a qualified financial professional with expertise in budget management and financial forecasting? We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Accountant to join a local authority in Berkshire on a temporary basis. This role provides a fantastic opportunity for experienced finance specialists to make a significant impact during a period of change within the Property Services department.
About the RoleFinancial Accountant
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for supporting the Property Services function by realigning revenue and capital budgets, forecasting Medium-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS), and challenging expenditure assumptions. This is a vital position, requiring a candidate with a strong background in public sector or property-related financial management.
Candidate Responsibilities- Lead the preparation, monitoring, and review of revenue and capital budgets to ensure strong financial control.
- Develop accurate monthly, quarterly, and medium-term financial forecasts, considering property disposals, income variations, capital investments, and emerging financial pressures.
- Provide insightful financial analysis and management information to senior managers, directors, and elected members.
- Highlight risks, variances, savings opportunities, and areas that require proactive action.
- Act as the lead finance business partner for Property Services, supporting budget holders and stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations, accounting standards, and organisational policies.
- Qualified accountant with substantial experience in financial management, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Proven experience within local government, public sector finance, or property-related financial management.
- Strong influencing and business partnering skills with the confidence to challenge expenditure.
- Advanced Excel and financial modelling capabilities.
- Ability to interpret complex financial data and provide clear, commercially-focused recommendations.
