Aboutthe role
The Global Data Governance Director is a senior leadership role responsible for building, executing, and sustaining the enterprise-wide data governance strategy. Reporting to the VP, Global Data & Analytics, this role ensures that the company's data are trusted, standardized, well-governed, and available as a strategic asset to enable business growth, regulatory compliance, and digital transformation. The successful candidate will chair Global Data Governance committees to drive data feasibility assessments (i.e. data availability, quality, consistency and synergies) and will monitor compliance of the current Group / BU projects with Data Governance standards.
The Director will lead three specialized sub-teams covering data domain stewardship, master data technology platforms and foundational datasets as products in the company's data lake. This leader will work closely with business stakeholders, technology partners, and executive leadership to drive data quality at source, implementing scalable governance processes, and promoting a culture of data literacy and accountability across the enterprise.
Your responsibilities- Define and lead the enterprise-wide Data Governance strategy
, ensuring alignment with business objectives, digital transformation priorities, advanced analytics initiatives, AI readiness, and regulatory requirements, while driving a culture of accountability and data-driven decision-making across the organisation. - Influence and engage senior stakeholders at executive level
, building understanding of the strategic value of data governance, securing sponsorship for key initiatives, and navigating complex trade-offs to ensure data is managed as a critical business asset that enables sustainable value creation. - Lead a global Data Governance organisation
, overseeing Data Domain Stewardship, Master Data Technology Platforms, and Governance & Compliance teams, and fostering strong collaboration across functions, geographies, shared services, and external partners to deliver an integrated governance programme. - Establish and embed data governance frameworks, policies, standards, and controls
, ensuring consistent adoption across all business areas, monitoring compliance, and driving continuous improvement in data quality, data management practices, and governance maturity. - Drive excellence in master data management
, owning the vision and evolution of MDM platforms and related technologies, while partnering with enterprise architecture and IT teams to ensure scalable, automated, and integrated solutions that support critical business processes and data products. - Champion data quality, stewardship, and operational accountability
, empowering data stewards to define standards and quality expectations, improving data quality at source, facilitating governance forums, and ensuring clear ownership of remediation activities across critical data domains. - Deliver measurable business value from data governance investments
, developing robust business cases, defining KPIs and success measures, tracking governance performance through scorecards and reporting, and demonstrating tangible outcomes through improved decision-making, risk reduction, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and cost optimisation.
- Extensive and proven experience in data governance, data management, or enterprise information management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role directly managing Senior Managers and budgets in the £M ranges.
