Job Overview
An exciting opportunity as a Band 6 Junior Sister in the Emergency Department at Wexham Park Hospital. The Emergency Department is undergoing a period of development with modernised facilities and a strong organisational focus on exceptional patient care. The department also promotes a supportive, family‑friendly working environment, offering flexible shift patterns, including both long days and shorter shifts, to support work‑life balance.
This role provides an excellent opportunity for experienced emergency nurses looking to develop their leadership skills while contributing to a collaborative and forward‑thinking emergency care team.
ResponsibilitiesAs a band 6 nurse, you will be expected to take charge of either the whole department with the support of the Manager or a specific area of the department. You should be able to run your area with minimal supervision, keep the flow of the department going, plan early for safe discharge, keep the area safe, and support junior staff.
The position includes a protected teaching time and a development programme designed to support the growth of your management skills.
- Current NMC registration
- Evidence of recent continued practice development
- Post‑basic certificate in a relevant subject
- Evidence of recent experience within emergency care
- Evidence of up‑to‑date standards of clinical practice
- Competence in triage
- Evidence of clinical competence in critical care assessment
- Ability to take charge of the emergency department
- Good, effective interpersonal and communication skills (written & verbal)
- Nursing degree (BSc or Masters) or working towards a degree
- Teaching certificate
- Advanced life support certificate
- Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of evidence‑based practice
- Experience of staff development
- Able to work flexible shifts, weekends and bank holidays as required
