Job OverviewWard 9 at Wexham Park Hospital is a 38-bedded specialist Respiratory Unit providing high-quality care to patients with a wide range of acute and chronic respiratory conditions and varying levels of clinical dependency. We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will have experience in Respiratory, Acute Medicine or HDU nursing, with previous experience of team leadership and/or management.
The role involves providing effective clinical leadership and supporting the delivery of safe, compassionate and evidence-based care to acutely unwell medical and respiratory patients. You will be expected to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, promote effective teamwork and act as a positive role model for nursing staff. Ward 9 provides specialist care for patients with acute respiratory failure, COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, asthma and other complex respiratory conditions.
The unit manages patients requiring enhanced respiratory support and specialist interventions, including tracheostomy and laryngectomy care, chest drains, NIV and Home NIV, CPAP, high-flow oxygen therapy, airway suction and complex oxygen requirements. You will support the Ward Sister in the day-to-day management of the ward, contribute to service development and ensure high standards of patient care, safety and experience are maintained.

In partnership with senior multi professional colleagues, maintain and develop a flexible high dependency service, able to respond to trust requirements. To act as a credible clinical role model promoting a patient-centered approach to care, demonstrating advanced clinical practice skills and theoretical knowledge in caring for the complex needs of the critically ill patient.
