Electrical Construction Fitter
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSE) is committed to building a safer and more flexible energy future. We are looking for an Electrical Construction Fitter to join our in‑house electrical construction team across Southern England.
Base LocationSlough, Swindon, Oxford, Melksham, Andover, Yeovil, Poole, New Forest, Portsmouth, Petersfield, Aldershot, West London, or Reading – your base must be within commuting distance of the depot.
Salary and Benefits£34,749 – £40,939 yearly. Additional benefits: overtime & travel time, 37‑hour week, company vehicle, training to gain further authorisations, full PPE and tools supplied, London allowance of £3,000 (for Slough/West London), plus the full SSE benefits package.
Working PatternPermanent full‑time.
Responsibilities- Deliver high‑voltage construction projects in live electricity substations in line with operational safety rules and legislation.
- Install and commission new CT metering apparatus.
- Operate telehandlers, Mewps and construct mobile scaffolds (full training provided).
- Maintain a personal development plan created in collaboration with line manager.
- Experience installing electrical systems, containment, cabling, plant and small wiring.
- Strong regard for safety, understanding of CDM regulations and good communication skills.
- Previous work on DC battery systems, internal panel wiring modification, multicore cable termination and glanding, wiring circuit breakers, CT’s/VT’s to marshalling kiosks and control panels, AC/DC wiring and replacing 33kV outdoor circuit breakers and isolators.
- Knowledge of the electricity distribution network and experience living‑in live sub‑stations from 11kV to 132kV.
- Existing electricity network operational authorisations and qualifications such as scaffold, telehandler, furzeweld, working at heights, confined space, asbestos, COSHH, Loler and SMSTS.
A full, clean UK driving licence is essential. The role requires a flexible approach to working hours and locations, with extensive travel throughout the network area.
