Position: OR112980 – Triage/Housing Options Officer – Housing

Client: Slough Borough Council

Location: Chalvey Community Hub, Ladbroke Road, Slough, SL1 2SR

Work Pattern: Must work 3 days in the office – 9am – 5pm, 37 hours a week

PAYE Pay Rate: £18.64 per hour

Main Purpose

To assess homelessness applications, provide housing advice, and support customers in finding suitable housing solutions. Ensure the Council meets its legal duties under homelessness legislation and works to prevent homelessness wherever possible.

Typical Day Overview
  • Assess homelessness cases and housing needs.
  • Provide advice and support to customers facing housing difficulties.
  • Manage cases involving homelessness, evictions, tenancy issues, and complex situations.
  • Work with landlords, partner agencies, and internal teams to find solutions.
  • Update case records, systems, and documents accurately.
  • Provide a professional and customer-focused service.
Key Skills & Experience
  • Knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing advice.
  • Experience in housing, homelessness, or customer support services.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a busy caseload and meet deadlines.
  • Good IT skills and accurate record keeping.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of equality, diversity, and safeguarding.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Knowledge of Homeless Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996, and homelessness legislation.
  • Experience handling homelessness, housing advice, or case management.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complex cases and confidential information.
  • Good IT skills and accurate record keeping.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and work under pressure.
  • Understanding of equality, diversity, safeguarding, and customer service.
  • Basic DBS
