Position: OR113897 – Allocations Officer

Work Pattern:2-3 days in office (including Hubs as per rota), 37 hours a week

PAYE Pay Rate: £19.32 per hour

Main Purpose of the Role

To assess housing applications and determine eligibility for the Housing Register, ensuring social housing allocations are lawful, fair and suitable. The role is responsible for meeting statutory requirements, performance targets and the Council’s Housing Allocations Policy.

Typical Day Overview
  • Assess and manage social housing applications, including complex cases.
  • Verify applicants’ circumstances and eligibility.
  • Conduct home visits where required.
  • Allocate available social housing properties.
  • Liaise with housing teams, other departments and external agencies.
  • Identify and investigate potential fraud or incorrect applications.
  • Maintain accurate housing records and update IT systems.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and provide clear housing advice.
  • Support vulnerable applicants and help identify suitable housing solutions.
  • Prepare and review performance information and reports.

Essential Qualifications / Requirements
  • A Level or equivalent, with good literacy and numeracy.
  • NVQ Level 3 Business Administration, BTEC, relevant housing qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • Knowledge of relevant housing, homelessness and immigration legislation.
  • Experience working with vulnerable customers in a busy customer service environment.
  • Experience using computerised information management systems.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
