The purpose of this position is to provide general supervision and management of an assigned group of children ages birth to five, ensuring their health, safety, welfare, and supporting the CDC kitchen, maintaining NC child care rules, health & sanitation regulations, and the Child and Adult Food Care Program requirements. This position works under the supervision of the JCC Child Development Center Director.
Knowledge& Responsibilities
- Maintain constant supervision of children.
- Implement approved developmentally appropriate activities when the regular classroom teacher is absent.
- Keep classroom, bathrooms, kitchen, and storage areas neat and organized.
- Sanitize/clean materials and perform laundry duties as needed.
- Inform the center director of situations and problems that arise in the classroom.
- Give each child attention needed to assure best welfare related to learning experiences, eating, diapering/toileting, sleeping, playing, healthcare and safety.
- Assist in preparing and serving daily meals while maintaining sanitation rules and Child and Adult Food Care Program requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, classrooms, bathrooms and other assigned areas.
- Record keeping for CACFP as needed.
- Participate in professional development / training based on NC license rules and regulations.
- Attend staff meetings as requested by the JCC CDC Director and/or Director of Education Programs.
- Exercise confidentiality, honesty, and sound judgment regarding the care of children, families, colleagues and adult college students.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
This position has no employee supervisory responsibilities but includes direct supervision of children ages one to five and assists in supervision of classroom volunteers, visitors, students, etc.
Qualifications- Education Minimum: 4 semester hours of college level early childhood education (EDU 119) & or verifiable equivalency from NC DCDEE.
- Education Preferred: Associate Degree in early childhood education or closely related field; NC Early Childhood Credential; CPR/First Aid certification.
- Experience Minimum: One semester (4 months) working/volunteering in a licensed child care facility.
- Preferred Experience: Minimum three years of experience working directly with children in a licensed child care facility; fluent in Spanish.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Proficiency with NC Child Care rules, accreditation guidelines, sanitation requirements, etc.
- Quality oral and written communication skills for modeling for children and communicating with outside agencies, students, and families.
- Operate children's electronic educational tools such as Smart Tables, computers, and similar media.
- Operate additional office equipment such as fax, copier, and printer.
The employee must be able to communicate effectively, meet mobility requirements, and occasionally move materials up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment- Typical early care and education classroom settings with a group of children.
- JCC Child Development Center is a laboratory school; staff are expected to maintain best practice in providing quality care and learning experiences.
- Kitchen duties may include hand washing, sanitizing dishes and food delivery carts, using appliances, and food prep using sharp instruments.
- Field trips and external excursions may be required.
