Location: Smithfield, NC, United States

Job Title: Radiation Therapist

Pay Rate: $55 Per Hour

Schedule: 3 Months (Possible Extensions)

Shift Details:

Job Duties:

  • Prepare patients for radiation therapy, including positioning them on the treatment table, ensuring proper alignment, and assisting with immobilization devices.
  • Explain the radiation treatment process to patients, discussing the procedure, potential side effects, and what to expect before, during, and after treatment.
  • Provide emotional support and comfort to patients, who may be anxious or stressed about their treatment.
  • Administer radiation treatment to patients according to the radiation oncologist’s plan, using various equipment, such as linear accelerators (LINAC), to deliver the prescribed dose.
  • Ensure that the radiation is delivered precisely to the target area, following strict protocols to minimize damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
  • Continuously monitor patients during therapy to assess their condition, adjust positioning if necessary, and ensure that the treatment is being delivered safely.
  • Work closely with radiation oncologists and medical physicists in treatment planning, ensuring the patient’s position, target areas, and radiation doses are correctly documented.
  • Operate radiation therapy equipment such as simulators and treatment machines, ensuring equipment is functioning correctly and safely.
  • Participate in routine checks and quality assurance processes to maintain the functionality and safety of radiation therapy equipment.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of each treatment session, including radiation doses, equipment settings, and patient responses.
  • Document patient conditions, any side effects, or unusual reactions to the therapy, and communicate relevant information to the healthcare team.
  • Update patient records with relevant treatment progress, adjustments, and side effects.
  • Adhere to strict safety guidelines and standards to protect both the patient and healthcare providers from unnecessary radiation exposure.
  • Ensure radiation safety by constantly monitoring the patient and surroundings during therapy.
  • Follow all relevant laws, regulations, and protocols established by medical governing bodies, such as the American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) or other regulatory agencies.
  • Distribute all HLD/S items in a manner that will maintain their HLD/S integrity and appropriately document when necessary as per departmental and/or Hospital protocol.
  • Required Certifications & Licensure:

    Radiation Therapy certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

    Required

    Education:

    Graduation from a Radiation Therapy Technologist program approved by the Council of Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA)

    • Varian Trilogy – Required
    • Varian RPM Experience - Preferred
    • MOSAIQ – Preferred
