Overview
RN Clinical Nurse - Orthopedics at UNC Health Johnston. Provides competent clinical nursing care in a hospital setting, reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, coordinating and delivering patient care using the nursing process.
Incentive Program – This position qualifies for the UNC Health Johnston RN Incentive Program. Eligible candidates may receive:

4th Floor Surgical/Orthopedics/Joint Center DescriptionUNC Johnston Fourth Floor Surgical unit is a 33 private bed postoperative unit. The Joint Center on one wing serves Total Joint Patients. The unit provides care for postoperative patients who have had Total Joint and other Orthopedic, Urology, Gynecology, General and Vascular surgeries. It is a fast-paced unit offering opportunities to gain experience with chest tubes, colostomies, NG tubes, wound vacs, and post-surgical care.
The leadership team emphasizes teamwork and recognition from patient and family feedback.
- Education – identify and meet learning needs; attend education programs; assess readiness to learn; tailor patient education materials; assess developmental level and factors affecting learning.
- Evaluation of Care – identify expected outcomes; revise plan of care with guidance; participate in interdisciplinary discussions; communicate to promote continuity of care.
- Implementation – provide care for patients with complex problems; perform bedside point-of-care testing; follow nursing standards, policies and procedures; organize and prioritize care; consult resources as needed for complex cases and discharge planning.
- Leadership – develop professional growth goals; support unit goals and performance improvements; facilitate interdepartmental collaboration; promote cost-effective care; provide feedback to coworkers; uphold safety and regulatory guidelines.
- Patient Assessment – recognize data to determine priorities; assess physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs; anticipate discharge needs; foster family relationships to support patient advocacy.
- Planning – collaborate with patient/family to update the plan of care; utilize multidisciplinary resources; address cultural and ethnic considerations; prioritize tasks for complex patients.
- Research – engage with current literature and share applicable ideas with the team.
- Education:
Graduation from a school of professional nursing. - Liber/Certification:
Licensed RN in North Carolina;
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. - Experience:
One (1) year of nursing experience.
