Shift Supervisor (Full Time)

Hourly Pay: $18.50/hr

Job Summary

Assists the Store Manager in all operations of the Goodwill Retail Store or Outlet.

Responsibilities
  • Assist customers and donors in a timely and courteous manner, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Maximize used goods processing through proper application of Goodwill techniques, including sorting, preparing, and pricing items for sale, and meeting or exceeding production goals.
  • Maintain the store and surrounding premises neat, clean, and orderly, free of safety hazards, and ensure employees understand and follow health, safety, and emergency procedures. Report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Unload trucks as required; sort and grade newly arrived goods.
  • Train new employees in a timely manner according to agency and store policies and procedures.
  • Maintain production areas to ensure ease of operations.
  • Comply with cash handling and security policies; close out register daily, confirm the correct amount, notify supervisor of discrepancies, and make nightly deposit to the designated bank.
  • Act as shift supervisor in the store manager’s absence, including opening/closing the store, directing personnel activities, ensuring adherence to agency policies, CARF standards, safety and security regulations, accurate sales reporting, proper processing of donated goods, ordering store supplies, truck delivery, and building security checks. Seek assistance from supervisor or Human Resources in dealing with infractions or unusual situations.
  • Maintain store records as required.
  • Immediately report any suspicions or allegations of fraud to supervisor.
  • Follow all CARF, Agency, and store policies and procedures.
  • Perform bank transactions necessary to store operations, such as depositing daily receipts and securing coins or specific denominations of bills, requiring access to transportation to the designated bank.
  • Respond to alarm calls as part of the Alarm Responder Roster, following established procedures and maintaining personal telephone service; receive compensation under agency policy for time spent responding.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED plus a minimum of one year related experience and/or training.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers, clients, and other employees.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide using units of money.
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple instructions and handle standardized situations with occasional or no variables.
  • Ability to delegate tasks effectively to store personnel to ensure operations are fulfilled with minimal supervision.
  • High level of integrity and business ethics.

Physical Demands
  • Regular standing, walking, talking and hearing.
  • Frequent use of hands to handle, feel and reach.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.
  • Frequent lifting and moving up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • Regular pushing of crates that may weigh up to 600 pounds.
  • Assisting customers with heavy items using a hand truck and seeking assistance when lifting heavy objects.
  • Wearing protective eyewear and gloves when handling chemicals or cleaning solutions.
Work Environment

The work environment is typically hectic, fast paced, with regular deadlines and production quotas. Retail Shift Supervisors may be temporarily reassigned or transferred within the Goodwill territory. The environment may involve wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, airborne particles, caustic chemicals, weather, and risk of electrical shock. Noise levels are usually moderate.
