Position: ED Tech-Smithfield ED (Paramedic, Intermediate, Advanced EMT)-Labor Pool

Overview

This role is an Emergency Department Technician – a Labor Pool position located at Riverside Smithfield Hospital, a brand‑new facility opening early 2026 in Smithfield, Virginia. The 200,000‑square‑foot, three‑story hospital will provide comprehensive medical services—including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 ICU beds and 4 Operating Rooms—to meet the community’s growing needs.

What You Will Do
  • Apply assessment standards of practice to the patient population served in the Emergency Department.
  • Observe patient condition variances and notify the physician and team using SBAR when appropriate.
  • Complete all required clinical documentation consistently per Riverside Health System standards.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and urgency to support patient throughput throughout the facility.
  • Link community resource needs to the patient population served within the community.
  • Delegate and prioritize tasks to ensure all patient care needs are met; recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Volunteer for creative changes and shift flexing to meet departmental productivity goals.
  • Build trusting collaborative relationships with a multidisciplinary team to support patient care needs.
  • Maintain a safe patient care environment by complying with system policies, procedures and regulatory requirements that support National Safety Patient Goals and Quality Initiatives.
  • Suggest cost containment measures; provide feedback on new equipment/product evaluations to identify solutions for cost savings and waste reduction.
  • Support training and support of all team members, volunteers and students as needed; engage new team members to create a supportive environment.
  • Fill in as the monitor tech as needed.
Qualifications Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Program Graduate, Paramedic or Emergency Medical Technician training course (Preferred)
Experience
  • 1 year Emergency Technician Experience (PRN Status Only) (Required)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – NREMT Advanced, Intermediate or Paramedic (Required upon hire)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) – Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Advanced, Intermediate or Paramedic (Required upon hire)
  • Military Experience – U.S. Military Equivalent military experience in lieu of EMT certification will be accepted (Required upon hire)
  • CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (Required upon hire)
  • ACLS Provider – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (Required)
  • PALS Provider – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (Required within 180 days)
