Opening in early 2026, Riverside Smithfield Hospital will bring high‑quality healthcare closer to home for Isle of Wight County residents. Located on a 27‑acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard
, the new 200,000‑square‑foot, three‑story facility will offer a range of essential services, including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 ICU beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. We anticipate start dates to begin Fall 2025.
Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse in the care of patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified treatments. The position must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in the assigned unit, including knowledge of growth and development over the life span. The LPN promotes and maintains a safe work environment for staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.
The LPN may work in a variety of settings and roles within Riverside Health System, collaborating with leadership and a multi‑disciplinary team to provide comprehensive services in accordance with the standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals.
- Under the supervision of the RN, partner with patients and families to implement the plan of care, treatments, and procedures that contribute to the physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient. Incorporate evidence‑based standards of practice. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care. Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next care setting as part of the plan of care.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput, ensuring consistent, competent, and ethical care. Focus on quality outcomes when addressing customers’ needs, including current evidence‑based practice and quality measures.
- Demonstrate effective nursing skills (vitals, blood sugars, administering treatments and medications) in completing tasks accurately and efficiently. Follow protocols and physician orders.
- Demonstrate understanding of diverse patient care populations and modify educational approaches to ensure patient/family comprehension. Evaluate and document patient comprehension.
- Build trusting collaborative relationships with peers and the multidisciplinary team to support patient care needs.
- Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and ensure patient needs are met. Recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluate own needs for support and use identified systems/resources to obtain assistance.
Education
- Program Graduate, Practical Nursing (Required)
- Equivalent military experience and education in lieu of program graduate (Required)
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Experience
- 1 year Acute care experience (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) Upon Hire (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required)
