Riverside Smithfield Hospital—located at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, Virginia—is opening in early 2026 on a beautifully landscaped 27‑acre medical campus. The 200,000‑square‑foot, three‑story facility will feature an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, and 4 Operating Rooms. Start dates are anticipated to begin in Fall 2025.
Hours: 8‑hour shifts – days – rotating call and weekends.
Part‑time and Labor Pool positions are also available.
OverviewThe Echo Technologist performs cardiac sonography examinations in a hospital setting, demonstrating the skills and knowledge to assess technical data reflective of patient status relative to age and specific needs, and to assist in the interpretation of the same, providing preliminary impressions as appropriate. The role delivers quality, cost‑effective patient care in a professional manner and works effectively to maintain an environment of excellence, which is patient focused and provides timely, compassionate, quality care.
WhatYou Will Do
- Perform cardiac sonography examinations. Produce quality images following appropriate protocols and procedures. Provide and maintain clinical documentation per scope of practice.
- Educate patients/families regarding the procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Position the patient and complete the procedure.
- Demonstrate commitment to safety and quality and prevent or reduce harms through knowledge and application of departmental policies, procedures, and resource documents.
- Understand and adhere to all applicable regulatory and accrediting standards, follow RHS policies and procedures, and report variances.
- Provide effective and efficient assessment, actions, and documentation.
- Program Graduate, Accredited Sonography Program (Preferred)
- Associate’s Degree, Accredited Sonography Program (Preferred)
- Bachelor’s Degree, Accredited Sonography Program (Preferred)
- 1 year Imaging Experience (Preferred)
- CPR/BLS Certification – American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire (Required)
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer with an Adult Echocardiography specialty (RDCS‑AE) – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Upon Hire (Required)
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) – Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Upon Hire (Required)
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) – American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Upon Hire (Preferred)
