Opening in early 2026, Riverside Smithfield Hospital will bring high-quality healthcare closer to home for Isle of Wight County residents. Located on a beautifully landscaped 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield
, the new hospital will provide modern facilities and comprehensive medical services to meet the growing needs of the community.

The 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility will offer a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 4 Operating Rooms. The Echo Technologist performs cardiac sonography examinations in a hospital setting, demonstrating the skills and knowledge to assess technical data reflective of patient status relative to age and specific needs, and to assist in the interpretation of same, providing preliminary impressions as appropriate. Delivers quality, cost effective patient care in a professional manner. Works effectively to maintain an environment of excellence, which is patient focused, providing timely, compassionate, quality patient care.

• Performs cardiac sonography examinations. Produces quality images following appropriate protocols and procedures. Provides and maintains clinical documentation per scope of practice.
• Educates patients/families regarding the procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Positions the patient and completes the procedure.
• Demonstrates commitment to safety and quality and prevents or reduces harms through knowledge and application of departmental policies, procedures, and resource documents.
• Understands and adheres to all applicable regulatory and accrediting standards. Follows RHS policies and procedures. Reports variances.
• Provides effective and efficient assessment, actions, and documentation.

• Program Graduate, Accredited Sonography Program (Preferred) or
• Associates Degree, Accredited Sonography Program (Preferred) or
• Bachelors Degree, Accredited Sonography Program (Preferred)

• 1 year Imaging Experience (Preferred)

• CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required)
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer with an Adult Echocardiography specialty (RDCS-AE) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Upon Hire(Required) or
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) Upon Hire(Required)
• Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification in Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) Upon Hire(Preferred)
