Introduction
The Delaware Shorebird Project monitors and protects bird species of conservation concern migrating through the Delaware Bay each spring.
Summary StatementThis seasonal position assists the Delaware Shorebird Project during the May field season. Primary responsibilities include recruiting, scheduling, training, and managing volunteers to collect migratory shorebird data. Additional duties involve walking and boat surveys, flag resighting, large cannon-net captures for banding, tagging, and satellite tag deployment. Outside the May field season, responsibilities include data entry and management, assisting with other wildlife projects, and preparing reports and outreach materials for volunteers and the general public using GIS, Excel, RStudio, and Access.
EssentialFunctions
- Provides technical support in studies, surveys, inspections, and research projects.
- Survey and monitor bird populations.
- Trapping and banding.
- Works cooperatively with other seasonals, volunteers, and Division of Fish and Wildlife staff.
- Provides technical information and assistance to the public.
- Maintains accurate records and prepares reports.
- Assists in data entry.
- Maintains records and reports detailing daily activities.
- Demonstrates responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
- Other duties as assigned.
Applicants must have education, training, and experience demonstrating competence in the following areas:
- Six months experience in conducting field work to collect environmental or ecological samples and survey data.
- Six months experience in analyzing and evaluating data.
- Six months experience in math such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, or decimals.
- Six months experience in interpreting laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
- Six months experience in narrative report writing.
- Six months experience in using an automated information system to enter, update, modify, delete, retrieve/inquire, and report on data.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
