Chemical Production Operator performs tasks for manufacturing of water-soluble lubricant and flammables. The operator must work independently to accomplish all plant production activities on his assigned shift. Incumbent will be responsible for documenting, verifying, and approving all Quality Control and Line Clearance procedures. Position also requires maintenance of batch folders, and other associated production planning documents.

Responsibilities
  • Operate the production equipment according to the Standard Operating Procedures. (Perform all phases of equipment set-up, operation, and routine maintenance.)
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Identify and understand the properties and hazards of chemicals.
  • Ensure that chemicals are packaged and labeled correctly.
  • Operate and conduct forklift inspections.
  • Operate tractors to move bulk containers around the facility.
  • Loading and packaging chemicals to allow the facility to operate safely and efficiently.
  • Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel, and follow safety protocol.
  • Operate in a safe manner following all OSHA guidelines and complying with environmental and safety regulations.
  • Monitor critical data and enter the data into the computer system and onto the hard copy SOP forms.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and adjust equipment.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric testing meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production.
  • Work a rotating twelve-hour schedule (7 am–7 pm and 7 pm–7 am) with patterns such as 4 nights on – 3 off; 3 days on – 1 off; 3 nights on – 3 off; 4 days on – 7 off.
  • Other duties as assigned and may be required to work in other departments as deemed appropriate by plant management.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years working in a manufacturing plant; chemical manufacturing preferred.
  • Problem solving, analytical ability, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Must pass Department of Homeland Security background check and pre-placement physical (including respirator) and pre-employment drug-screen.
Working Conditions
  • Standing in place for long periods to perform tasks and duties of the job.
  • Walking on flat surfaces or slight inclines and/or rough or uneven surfaces.
  • Climbing ladders to perform tasks such as repairs on machinery or inspecting a process.
  • Maintain balance while working on narrow, slippery, or steep surfaces.
  • Pushing or pulling heavy objects weighing more than 50 lbs. or requiring up to 100 lbs. of force or more, to move equipment, raw materials, drums, etc.
  • Lifting or carrying objects weighing more than 50 lbs.
  • Lifting, carrying, or supporting “oversized” objects to perform tasks.
  • Bending, stooping, and kneeling to perform work on equipment or machinery.
  • Reaching below the waist, from waist to shoulder, and above the shoulder to perform related work tasks.
  • Working in extremely confined and cramped positions from time to time.
  • Making careful finger movements and grasping objects with fingers and palms.
  • Making repetitive movements with arms and hands to handle products to perform tasks.
  • Maintaining controlled, steady arm-hand positions to perform tasks.
  • Speaking and hearing:
    Interact with all plant groups as well as the plant's environmental consultants.
  • Seeing:
    Must be able to read and follow written instructions.
  • Out-of-door environment and subject to temperatures below freezing or above 90 degrees for extended periods.
  • Loud work environment requiring hearing protection in some areas.
  • Subject to vibrations.
  • Working in an industrial chemical environment with the use of personal protective equipment including full-face respirators.
  • Working at night.
