Overview
The Group Exercise Instructor will lead members, in a group environment, through a pre-arranged format of exercises designed to enhance overall fitness, strength and endurance, while ensuring that member safety is not compromised. The instructor also serves as a resource to educate members on various aspects of fitness.

Responsibilities- Pre-Class Preparation
- Arrive 10‑15 minutes early, interact with members, answer questions, and orient new participants.
- Select appropriate clothing, footwear and music; avoid offensive language.
- Ensure equipment and audio devices are functioning.
- Prepare a welcoming environment for all participants.
- During Class Responsibilities
- Introduce yourself and the class format.
- Assess first-timers’ fitness levels in a private manner.
- Provide clear verbal instructions and maintain appropriate music volume.
- Monitor participants to ensure correct form and offer variations.
- Create a motivating and enjoyable atmosphere.
- After Class Responsibilities
- Remove music and return audio equipment to its proper place.
- Ensure the room is ready for the next class.
- Answer any participant questions or concerns.
- Solicit feedback about the class.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain timely class start and end times; adjust flow if necessary.
- Follow closing procedures for last class of the day.
- Find a qualified substitute if unable to teach, and notify the Group Exercise Director.
- Remain dependable and minimize cancellations or substitutes.
- Attend required staff meetings.
- Record time accurately and promptly.
- Prepare incident or witness reports when needed.
- Mantain a positive, professional attitude toward responsibilities, colleagues, and members.
- At least six months teaching in a group exercise format.
- Knowledge of safe exercise techniques and group exercise principles.
- Understanding of basic physiology and body mechanics.
- Ability to perform a variety of exercise routines.
- Positive and effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot audio equipment.
- Specialized skill such as Yoga, Pilates, Body Pump, Body Attack, etc. with verifiable proof of education.
- Group fitness certification by ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or an accredited organization.
- Current CPR certification and basic first aid training.
- Physical demands: ability to lift light weights, bend, squat, jump, run, reach, walk, hop, spin, and kick.
