SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. The Sustaining Product Engineer is responsible for supporting existing products throughout their lifecycle by maintaining accurate documentation, improving manufacturability, and driving cost efficiency. This role ensures that production and supply chain operations run smoothly through consistent engineering updates and technical support. This position will provide engineering support for SPX Tamco, an industry leader in backdraft and control dampers.
The role is an entry to mid‑level engineering position and part of the SPX‑EAM Engineering team.
- Create and maintain accurate, detailed manufacturing and vendor‑facing drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and routings, ensuring all changes are correctly documented and released.
- Provide immediate engineering support for troubleshooting and resolving issues with released products, including evaluating customer or field complaints.
- Lead or support the implementation of engineering changes (ECOs/ECNs) to improve product documentation, resolve technical issues, manage obsolescence, and maintain the integrity of product data.
- Manage product configuration, revisions, and related records throughout the lifecycle of each product.
- Liaise with manufacturing, sourcing, product management, IT, and development teams to ensure all product updates and changes are effectively communicated and implemented.
- Assist in vendor management by updating technical documentation, addressing supplier‑related issues, and facilitating supplier qualifications as needed.
- Support regulatory and quality efforts by maintaining compliance with documentation requirements, managing drawing control, and assisting with audits or reviews.
- Participate in product knowledge transfer and provide technical expertise for cross‑functional teams. May support complaint investigations and technical responses to customer inquiries.
- 2–7 years of relevant experience in product or sustaining engineering
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software, Autodesk Inventor preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- MRP/ERP aptitude, (item creation, item maintenance, BOM’s, & routings)
- Product data management experience (change management, revision control)
- Experienced in working with cross‑functional teams and managing product documentation through its lifecycle.
- Basic understanding of HVAC design and application of mechanical components such as fans, dampers, louvers, gearboxes, motors, couplings, and other related mechanical equipment
- Strong analytical skills applying engineering knowledge
- Accountable for one’s own work with daily and/or weekly oversight
- Creative and passionate about product design
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail and process accuracy.
- Capacity to manage and perform multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment
