Job Summary

The Medical Technologist collects and prepares specimens, performs laboratory procedures, verifies, records and reports lab results accurately and timely, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, hospital policies and laboratory procedures. The role requires maintaining the cleanliness and functioning of all equipment, instruments, and work area.

Job Responsibilities
  • Apply extensive knowledge of human physiology and the changes in the body from disease to relevant testing in the assigned section.
  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.
  • Perform only those tests authorized by the Laboratory Director based on the individual's education, training, experience and technical skill set.
  • Conduct various laboratory tests, evaluate results according to predefined criteria, and enter, verify and report results in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Identify and correct problems that may affect test performance or reporting or promptly notify the coordinator, laboratory management or medical director.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when systems deviate from established performance specifications.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a life science (chemical, physical, biological or related field) with generalist clinical laboratory experience within the last five years, OR a Bachelor’s degree in laboratory medical technology with clinical rotation.
  • National registration as MLS(ASCP) cm, MT(ASCP) or equivalent (e.g., AMT, AAB, HEW), or registry‑eligible at hire; if not held at hire, national certification must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for successful interaction with staff, patients, patient families and vendors.
