The Surgical Technologist Extern delivers high quality, patient‑centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services to support the efficient operation of the surgical suite. Under the supervision of the Circulating RN, the Surgical Technologist Extern assists the surgical staff in the perioperative process in accordance with the role’s skills and training and the needs of the Department.

• Graduate in 6 to 8 months.
• Collaborate with the Circulating RN and Surgical Tech to organize the operating suite with instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for the day.
• Review daily cases to ensure adequate stocking and proper functioning of equipment/instruments prior to procedures.
• Assist in creating and maintaining an orderly sterile instrument table using physician preference cards for efficient setup.
• Assist in preparing for emergency and add‑on cases rapidly and effectively.
• Provide care and comfort for the patient throughout the perioperative process.
• Transport patients to and from the surgical suite as needed.
• Aid in the transfer, positioning, prepping and draping of patients for surgical procedures in accordance with hospital standards.

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be currently enrolled in a Surgical Technologist certification/degree program with only 6‑8 months left to program completion.
• Must be able to work a minimum of 24 hours per month.
