CompensationNon-Certified Firefighter starts at $50,278.92 yearly salary.
Firefighter I starts at $54,651.00 yearly salary and is dependent upon applicable experience.
Firefighter II starts at $59,023.08 yearly salary and is dependent upon applicable experience.
Full-time position eligible for an annual performance bonus and a longevity bonus.

Purpose & ResponsibilitiesThe purpose of this classification is to combat, extinguish, and prevent fires; perform fire fighting activities that facilitate the protection of life and property. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Respond to fire alarms, extinguish fires, remove people from burning structures.
- Speak to citizens and businesses about fire safety.
- Maintain department facilities and equipment.
- Participate in individual and group training exercises.
- Report to Station Lieutenant and Battalion Chief.
Submit a current complete driving record during the application process. Failure to attach will result in disqualification. Driving records from any state of residency may be used.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Respond to fire alarms, connect hose, hold nozzle and direct water streams.
- Force entry of premises for fire fighting, rescue and salvage operations.
- Remove persons from danger; administer first aid to injured persons.
- Position and climb ladders to access upper levels of buildings.
- Perform salvage operations such as throwing covers, sweeping water and removing debris.
- Carry charged hose line into structure for fire extinguishment.
- Perform community service; educate public through onsite visits and demonstrations.
- Physically able to wear complete protective clothing and self-contained breathing apparatus.
- Participate in fire drills and attend training classes.
- Perform hazardous tasks under emergency conditions with extreme exertion.
- Lift objects weighing 50 to 100 pounds; perform tasks requiring bending, crouching, stooping, climbing, and crawling in smoke‑filled environments.
- Subject to call back in emergency situations during unscheduled work times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Respond to medical calls; provide first aid and basic emergency interventions.
- Provide coverage in absence of other personnel.
- Perform general maintenance work in upkeep of department property (cleaning, minor repairs, hose maintenance, yard work, painting).
- Operate departmental radio communications on special assignments.
- Participate in annual hose and flow testing of fire hydrants.
- Perform Town‑wide Pre‑Fire Inspections.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license issued by the State of Tennessee.
- Pass written firefighter examination, department’s physical agility test, psychological exam, medical examination by a licensed physician and maintain physical requirements.
- Complete TN Fire Commission approved basic firefighting course.
- Maintain State of Tennessee Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) certification.
- Pass yearly SCBA fit test and medical questionnaire.
- Respond to emergency situations during unscheduled work times.
- Obtain TN Fire Commission Firefighter I and II certification within 1 year.
- Complete ICSS-100, ICSS-200, ICSS-800.
- Complete TN Fire Commission approved Firefighter Survival, Rapid Intervention Teams, and Smoke Divers courses.
