Pay begins at $48,799.25 yearly salary for Vehicle Mechanic and is dependent upon applicable experience.
In addition to the base salary, this full-time position is eligible for an annual performance bonus as well as a longevity bonus.

The purpose of this classification is to perform and assist with inspecting, diagnosing issues, repairing, and performing routine maintenance on vehicles by identifying problems, operating computerized diagnostic equipment, replacing faulty parts, and ensuring proper functionality of systems. Additional responsibilities include maintaining the vehicle maintenance parts inventory system and assisting with additional duties around the shop. Duties and responsibilities include performing tests, mechanical repair, coordinating the parts inventory system, processing invoices for payment, transporting vehicles, and performing general cleaning/maintenance around the shop.
Under general supervision, reports to Fleet Manager.
- Performs and/or assists Heavy Equipment Mechanic(s) in performing mechanical repair, maintenance, and preventive maintenance work; performs and/or assists in inspecting, testing, and/or repairing engine components and systems, such as steering systems, suspension systems, hydraulic systems, brake systems, drive train systems, engine cooling systems, fuel systems, charging systems, starting systems, inflatable restraint systems, heating/air conditioning systems, power windows, lighting systems, or horns.
- Monitors inventory of department equipment, parts, tires, tools, and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; picks up/delivers materials as needed.
- Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with repairing, maintaining, and testing vehicles and equipment, which may include a service truck, various standard/emergency vehicles, various trucks and heavy equipment, vehicle lift, tire changer, battery charger, hydraulic jack, air compressor, pressure washer, generator, diagnostic instruments, or mechanic tools.
- Tests vehicles, machinery, equipment, and parts for proper operations.
- Coordinate and monitors inventory of department equipment, parts, tires, tools and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities. Initiates request for new/replacement materials; picks up/delivers materials as needed.
- Place orders for equipment, parts, tires tools, and supplies. When necessary will go retrieve items from stores.
- Assists with transport of vehicles needing repairs or returning vehicles after repairs are completed.
- Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep tools/replacing fluids, washing/cleaning vehicles and equipment, or cleaning shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
- Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; reports accidents and incidents.
- Accurately completes required paperwork i.e. bills, logs, work orders etc. in a timely manner.
- Maintains records in compliance to Federal, State, and City regulations.
- Works safely observing all OSHA, Federal, State and City regulations. Report any accidents immediately to Manager.
- Correctly wears appropriate personal protective equipment when required.
