Job Summary

Adheres to Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior‑based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence. Assesses plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates individualized, professional patient care to adult patients within the Progressive Care Unit and Medical Surgical Telemetry Unit. Provides nursing care as directed by medical staff and in accordance with the objectives, and the state Nurse Practice Act.

Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and critical thinking ability required to function on the unit and to respond to rapidly changing patient needs. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age‑specific needs and provide age‑specific appropriate treatment and care. Participates in unit and hospital Performance Improvement activities. Assumes Charge Nurse Role as assigned.

Required

Education, Training and Experience;
Certification/Licensure

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, and current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license. Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days of hire date. Must obtain NIHSS Stroke Certification within 90 days of hire date. Previous progressive care and/or medsurg acute care nursing experience preferred.

Primary Duties
  • Provides direct patient care and functions as a patient advocate.
  • Assesses the comprehensive nursing needs of an assigned group of patients.
  • Coordinates the patient and family/significant other education process.
  • Continuously plans, implements, and evaluates patient care, incorporating patient and family/significant other into the process.
  • Participates with physician partners and other interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient and family/significant other plan of care.
  • Communicates effectively all relevant information (e.g., patient information, safety issues, problems with equipment, quality issues, etc.) to immediate supervisor, in timely way.
  • Communicates and documents changes in patient condition, on a timely basis, to charge nurse/supervisor and physician.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
