Who We Are

At Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital, we offer primary care and 24/7 emergency services for dogs, cats, horses, and some small ruminants. We are a large multi‑departmental hospital with 20 Doctors and 85 Support Staff Members. Our integrative medicine department provides rehabilitation services for small animals and acupuncture and chiropractic for both large and small animals. We also serve as the primary specialty referral center for horses in the region with both board‑certified internal medicine and surgery specialists.

We are proud to be AAHA certified. Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital has been serving Snohomish and surrounding areas since 1963, offering extensive resources to the veterinary community of the Pacific Northwest.

We are looking to add a full‑time, experienced Small Animal ER Lead Licensed Veterinary Technician to our team!

Role Responsibilities
  • Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  • Assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  • Communicate with clients about individualized pet health concerns and offer guidance on Thrive Membership options, medications, and additional treatments.
  • Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
  • Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  • Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  • Be willing to guide, mentor, and support fellow team members.
Experience & Skill Requirements
  • LVT preferred – not required.
  • Emergency experience required (2+ years).
    * Proficient in safe, minimal‑stress patient handling and restraint, including fear‑free techniques.
  • Expertise in patient care including:
    • Triage and patient assessment procedures, including history and physical exam.
    • Administer prescribed treatment and medications, all modes of administration techniques.
    • Advanced IV catheter placement and maintenance; management of IV fluid therapy.
    • Administer and monitor blood/component transfusion.
    • Observe, assess, monitor, and report symptoms and condition of patients.
    • Provide proficient and advanced nursing care including patient comfort, cleanliness, nutrition, thermoregulation, care of recumbent patients.
    • Advanced knowledge and skills for pain assessment and management.
    • Setup, placement, maintenance, and monitoring of indwelling urinary catheters; calculate urine output.
    • Advanced skilled emergency response including performing CPR.
    • Setup for and assist with advanced procedures.
    • Advanced knowledge of sedation and anesthetic procedures.
    • Advanced knowledge of admission and recovery procedures for surgical patients.
    • Proficient navigation of PIMS.
    • Advanced proficiency in pharmacy skills: medication dose calculation, fill and label prescriptions, reconstitute/dilute drugs, calculate CRIs, % solutions, controlled substance documentation.
    • Advanced knowledge of all surgical procedures and recovery procedures.
    • Advanced knowledge in anesthetic procedures of critical and advanced care patients.
    • Proficient in aseptic and sterile technique.
