Inventory and Store Specialist II – Warehouse and Supply – Snyder Distribution Center – Manufacturing
Job Summary
Performs moderately complex inventory and retail sales work. This includes stocking, arranging, transferring inventory, displaying and selling merchandise, and monitoring store and warehouse operations to ensure compliance with established security requirements and procedures. The role works under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Functions- Conducts physical inventory of stock and property; maintains manual and automated accounting records of property purchased; assigns inventory numbers; ensures compliance with established procedures and recommends improvements.
- Plans and stores inventory items; documents the transfer and disposition of stock and equipment; investigates lost property items; locates and disposes of surplus property.
- Maintains inventory and stock control records in an automated inventory control system; prepares stock and equipment purchase requisitions; assists in preparing reports on warehouse operations, inventories, and stock levels.
- Trains and supervises inmates; provides technical assistance on handling stock, warehouse operations, and applicable policies; ensures compliance with safety rules, regulations, and standards.
- Maintains security of tools, machinery, and equipment; responds to emergency situations; performs various correctional and custodial support functions; assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.
- Performs a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
- Education, Experience, and Training
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school, GED, or equivalent.
- Two years full-time wage‑earning experience in supply, warehouse operations, inventory, stock control, or purchasing.
- Thirty semester hours from an accredited college may substitute for each year of experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Correctional custody or law‑enforcement experience preferred.
- Experience supervising employees or inmates preferred.
- Knowledge and skills
- Warehouse operations and inventory methods and procedures.
- Inventory and stock control record keeping and automated inventory control systems.
- Applicable state laws, rules, regulations, and statutes governing handling state property (preferred).
- Agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations (preferred).
- Ability to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Coordination with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
- Interpretation and application of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Problem‑solving techniques.
- Use of computers and related equipment in stand‑alone or LAN environments.
- Preparation and maintenance of complex inventory and stock control records and files in an automated system.
- Use of machinery and equipment in the assigned area.
- Training and supervising inmates.
- Physical capability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry at least 45 lbs; ability to operate a motor vehicle and motor equipment.
- Work conditions include inside and outside environments, around machines with moving parts or objects, radiant and electrical energy, both with others and alone, protracted or irregular hours, excessive heat, cold, humidity, constant noise, fumes, smoke, gases, dust, on ladders or scaffolding, traveling by car, van, bus, or airplane.
- Equipment used: computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, platform truck, drum cradle, walk‑and‑ride, order picker, telephone, dolly, automobile.
