The Store Assistant Manager assists in the day-to-day store operations. The Store Assistant Manager is responsible for supervising all store personnel in the Store Manager’s absence. The Store Assistant Manager works in conjunction with the Store Manager to be a driving force in achieving established revenue goals, while optimizing the level of production within budgeted expenses to maximize collections, production, sales, salvage, and customer service.
The Store Assistant Manager must provide support services by working with individuals with disabilities or disadvantages.
- Assist the Store Manager in the day-to-day operations of the store.
- Assist in supervision of store employees and volunteers.
- Assist in maximizing collections, production, sales, salvage, and customer service.
- Assist the Store Manager with the completion of accurate sales, production, inventory, quality, donor, and tracking records. Daily, weekly, and monthly reports are to be completed accurately and timely.
- Ensure the timely processing of donations received at the store and ensure donations reach the sales floor in a timely manner following SOPs for every operation.
- Ensure maximum sales performance through proper stock rotation, display, signage, and inventory levels; ensure the store meets or exceeds sales and daily production goals on a consistent basis.
- Maintain quality customer service to shoppers, donors, and employees; ensure the cleanliness and image of the store and sales floor.
- Securely manage cash, cash receipts, and assist with preparing bank deposits. Ensure security of safe combinations, keys, and all aspects of store operations.
- Report unusual or suspicious occurrences through the proper chain of command (HR, Safety/Loss Prevention, Store Manager).
- Assist in employee work performance evaluations and provide feedback to employees and the Store Manager.
- Coordinate transportation, maintenance needs, and tracking/reporting inventories.
- Assist in preparing weekly work and break schedules; implement daily work assignments to ensure regular performance of tasks.
- Ensure proper operation of store security, cash handling, and submission of required reports.
- Communicate with customers and assist them as needed.
- Assist in recruitment and selection as needed.
- Assist in maintenance and ordering of supplies; ensure proper rotation of aged textiles and hard goods per company policies.
- Assess merchandise quality, adjust prices as necessary, observe customers to reduce pilferage, and complete timecards and program participant documents when required.
- Maintain knowledge of merchandise, industry trends, and competitive pricing; support building exterior and parking lot appearance and overall store processing area cleanliness.
- Assist Store Manager with HR reports, personnel status changes, PTO forms, and incident reports; maintain discipline and coaching using HR resources.
- Greet customers, provide assistance, and uphold a positive work environment and professional appearance.
- Follow CARF accreditation standards and all company policies; maintain confidentiality of Goodwill information and individuals served.
- Assist in other areas requested.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Sufficient knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting to maintain simple store records.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in retail and production settings, including supervisory experience.
- Knowledgeable in merchandising and industry trends.
- Ability to operate a cash register, count money and make change.
- Ability to supervise and train team members.
- Ability to gather, analyze, record and express personnel productivity information; basic computer skills necessary.
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Ability to realistically assess merchandise values.
- Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance; willingness to drive to other Goodwill locations.
- Adherence to GIEP ethics policy.
- Ability to follow written or verbal instructions and work flexible hours (including nights and weekends).
- Willingness to transfer to other stores as requested and to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, customers, donors, and persons served.
- Maintain a positive, friendly attitude and a neat, clean appearance.
- Provide support services by working with disabled/disadvantaged persons and assisting in rehabilitation.
