For a utility-scale solar PV project in Sohar, Oman, we are looking for a highly experienced Instrumentation & Control Commissioning Engineer to supervise and coordinate the commissioning, testing, integration and handover of the plant’s control, monitoring and communication systems.
Job DescriptionThe Instrumentation & Control Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the pre-commissioning and commissioning of all instrumentation, automation, SCADA and plant-control systems associated with the solar PV facility.
The successful candidate must have more than 10 years of relevant I&C experience, with a strong and proven focus on utility-scale solar PV projects.
ResponsibilitiesMain Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the pre-commissioning and commissioning of instrumentation, control, automation and communication systems for the solar PV plant.
Lead commissioning activities for:
- SCADA systems
- Plant Power Controller, PPC
Inverter monitoring and control systems
Remote Terminal Units, RTUs
Programmable Logic Controllers, PLCs
Weather monitoring stations
Energy meters and metering panels
Communication gateways and plant networks
Protection, control and substation interfaces
Review commissioning procedures, method statements, inspection and test plans, test sheets and system-completion dossiers.
Perform and witness loop checks, point-to-point checks, signal simulation and functional testing.
Verify alarms, interlocks, cause-and-effect logic, control sequences and communication interfaces.
Supervise communication and protocol testing, including Modbus TCP/IP, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, OPC and other relevant industrial protocols.
Coordinate the integration of SCADA, PPC, inverter, metering, substation and grid-control systems.
Support plant energization, synchronization, grid-compliance testing, performance testing, reliability runs and final acceptance.
Coordinate with the EPC contractor, electrical commissioning team, inverter manufacturers, SCADA vendors, subcontractors and grid operator.
Identify commissioning issues and technical deficiencies and ensure their timely resolution.
Manage punch-list items and monitor closure before system handover.
Review red-line drawings, as-built documentation, test records and final commissioning dossiers.
Prepare daily and weekly commissioning progress reports for the Project Manager.
Ensure compliance with approved drawings, project specifications, quality procedures, HSE requirements and applicable grid-code requirements.
QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Control, Electrical, Electronics, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.
More than 10 years of relevant experience in instrumentation, control and commissioning.
Strong and proven experience in the commissioning of utility-scale solar PV plants.
Direct hands-on experience with SCADA, PPC, inverter controls, RTUs, PLCs, metering systems and plant communication networks.
Experience with plant energization, synchronization, grid integration and grid-compliance testing.
Strong knowledge of loop checking, point-to-point testing, functional testing, signal simulation, interlocks and control logic.
Good knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Modbus TCP/IP, IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104 and OPC.
Experience in power-generation, renewable-energy, substations or grid-connected projects is mandatory.
Familiarity with commissioning procedures, ITPs, punch-list management, system handover and final documentation.
Previous GCC or Oman project experience is a strong advantage.
Strong communication, troubleshooting, coordination and reporting skills.
Professional proficiency in English.
Available for short-notice mobilization to Sohar, Oman.
