Position Summary
This is a 32-week individual placement at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge working as an assistant coordinator for an outdoor-focused education program, assisting with a variety of visitor service programs. The individual placement will be part of a dynamic visitor service team; successfully facilitate a variety of school field trips, summer camps, special events, and educational/interpretive programs; and provide accurate information to Refuge visitors.

Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuring spring and fall you will organize and facilitate K-6 grade field trips, home-school and area classroom programs, and create and evaluate education materials as well as operating shifts in the Refuge Visitor Center. During the early/mid summer, you will facilitate Refuge summer camp programs, create and facilitate other Education/Interpretation/Outreach programs. Late summer you will assist in operating the Refuge Visitor Center and assist other Visitor Service program activities in the field including trails, cabins, and making roving contacts with the public.
MarginalDuties
Assisting other refuge departments like sample and data collection in the field with the biology department and using non-powered hand tools with the trail crew.
Required QualificationsThis SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working with children of elementary school age.
- Experience in public speaking.

Living AccommodationsUSFWS housing provided for the individual placement. Housing may be shared, including shared common areas.
Compensation- $1,300 – one time RT travel allowance
- $350 – weekly living allowance
