Maintenance Supervisor

Responsible for leading the 3rd shift maintenance personnel and ensuring all maintenance work and scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) are completed in a timely fashion under the direction of the Maintenance Manager. Maintain employee health and safety, product safety, and environmental protection while enhancing plant performance and business objectives.

Major Responsibilities and Tasks/Duties
  • Oversee and lead 3rd shift maintenance operations.
  • Close out pending maintenance items passed down from 1st and 2nd shift supervisors.
  • Provide Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) support for sanitation operations.
  • Support plant start‑up operations in coordination with QA and Operations.
  • Support off‑hour (non‑production) projects as needed.
  • Lead a team of mechanics in carrying out preventive/corrective maintenance inspections during shift operations and non‑production days to ensure equipment availability.
  • Champion site safety objectives through leadership and effective communication; assist Site Leadership and Safety Management Representative in implementing safety projects, upgrades, or improvements.
  • Ensure the maintenance team maintains an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations.
  • Implement and monitor an effective PM program for existing and new equipment; ensure work orders and assignments are completed timely.
  • Oversee operation and tracking of parts room, maintaining required spare parts inventory.
  • Maintain records of equipment repair costs.
  • Foster good human relations, communication, and leadership skills with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Coordinate scheduled maintenance and machine changeovers in conjunction with production schedules.
  • Develop and meet training needs and development programs to upgrade competencies and maintenance effectiveness.
  • Prepare studies and assignments requested by Engineering and Maintenance Leadership.
  • Plan annual maintenance requirements, including budgeting and M&R tracking.
  • Supervise contractors as needed.
  • Maintain productive relationships with counterparts at other affiliated facilities to learn from shared experiences.
  • Review and evaluate personnel performance, safety, and training.
  • Follow all food safety requirements and GMP guidelines.
Job Specific Competencies
  • Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a technical field and a bachelor’s degree, or 5–7 years of maintenance experience in a technical field for candidates without a degree.
  • In-depth technical knowledge and experience with VFFS baggers, product scales, film feed systems, case printers, and other production equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, operating, and maintenance skills across refrigeration, boilers, HVAC, wastewater, compressed air, vacuum, and high‑voltage systems.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, and relevant food safety regulations.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and mechanical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to comprehend and contribute to financial analysis and business drivers.
  • Knowledge of AMM, NEMT, and industrial service.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and report effectively under pressure.
Internal & External Relations
  • Internal:
    Plant Manager, Sr. Manager Facilities & Maintenance, Production, QA, Shipping, Receiving, HR, Finance, and Production Leadership.
  • External:
    Auditors and Vendors.
Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is strongly preferred.
Employee Management
  • Supervises between 15–20 hourly employees.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to maneuver around an array of equipment; bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders and/or stairs.
  • Exposure to fumes and airborne particles.
  • Ability to work in a cold environment.
Work Hours & Travel Requirements
  • Ability to work beyond regular business hours, including weekends.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to work various shifts (3rd Shift/Night Shift).
