Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant (Fixed Term - 12 months)
As part of an exciting new pilot on our Secure Inpatient wards, we are looking for 2 Occupational Therapy Assistants to join our experienced and motivated team. Predominantly ward based, your role will involve working with our Occupational Therapists to support the delivery of assessment and intervention to our patients across our male and female secure services. The work includes supporting patients with daily living skills such as cooking and money skills, functional skills such as transfers and mobility and sensory challenges.
This post would suit applicants looking to gain experience in Occupational Therapy.
Main duties of the job- You’ll be working on our inpatient wards, with some opportunities to support patients accessing the community for Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention, as guided by the qualified Occupational Therapist, giving you a varied and interesting role.
- Our patients have complex mental health needs as well as additional physical health needs, so your encouragement and understanding will make a real difference by building positive and supportive relationships.
- You will have the opportunity to support qualified Occupational Therapists with the completion of assessments, supporting creation of person‑centred care plans and goals.
- With guidance from a qualified Occupational Therapist, you’ll help plan and deliver creative, practical, and therapeutic activities for individuals and groups based on their assessed needs and identified goals.
- You’ll work closely with families, carers, and other professionals, helping everyone stay connected and informed. You may attend review meetings or multi-disciplinary team meetings to share updates.
- You’ll play a part in keeping everyone safe – helping to contribute to risk management plans and reporting any concerns to the qualified practitioner.
- You’ll support people to build skills, confidence and independence through meaningful activities that improve daily life and wellbeing.
- You will take part in appraising the Occupational Therapy service as guided by the OT team using outcome measures and evaluations.

Person Specification Experience- Experience of working with a therapist
- Experience of delivering therapy programmes devised by a therapist
- Experience of working with Learning Disability &/or Autism
- Ability to work independently but also to seek advice as required
- Evidence of working as an effective team member
- Car driver/owner with a UK driving licence and insurance for business use
- Ability to teach and support others to learn new skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Ability to adapt interventions and approaches in the light of clients' changing needs.
- NVQ 3 (or equivalent) in relevant area
- Able to demonstrable ability to meet the CWPT Trust Values
