Experienced Manual Miller Required
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manual Miller to join our specialist precision engineering to join our client business.
This is a varied role focused on the manufacture of high-precision, one-off components and gears. Unlike many machining positions, this is not production or batch work. We require a machinist who can think independently, set up jobs from scratch, and work accurately from engineering drawings.
Approximately 80% of the role will involve operating a Bridgeport Manual Milling Machine, with the remaining 20% involving rough machining gears on an Okuma 4-Axis CNC Milling Machine once competency has been demonstrated. The components are typically small and intricate, with most work pieces being under 100mm in size.

Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Setting up tooling, fixtures, and work holding equipment
Clocking bores and work pieces using a DTI (Dial Test Indicator)
Using rotary tables to accurately position components
Calculating and working with PCDs (Pitch Circle Diameters)
Finding centres and datums to establish machining positions
Working with angles, including degrees and minutes
Carrying out in-process inspection using micrometres, verniers, gauges, and indicators
Rough machining gears on an Okuma 4-Axis CNC Milling Machine
Maintaining high standards of quality, accuracy, and housekeeping
Following all health and safety procedures
Essential Requirements
Proven experience operating manual milling machines
Strong understanding of precision engineering principles
Ability to use a DTI to accurately clock work pieces and bores
Experience using rotary tables
Understanding of PCD calculations and centre-finding techniques
Ability to work with angular measurements (degrees and minutes)
Competent in reading engineering drawings
Experience working to tight tolerances
Ability to inspect and measure components accurately
Self-motivated with excellent attention to detail
Desirable Experience
Toolmaking background
Gear manufacturing or gear-cutting experience
