The Medical Receptionist 1 serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors within a healthcare setting, playing a critical role in ensuring a welcoming and efficient experience. This position is responsible for managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records, which directly supports the smooth operation of medical services. The role requires effective communication with patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to facilitate seamless coordination of care.
Attention to detail and confidentiality are paramount, as the receptionist handles sensitive patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations. Ultimately, the Medical Receptionist 1 contributes to the overall patient satisfaction and operational efficiency of the healthcare facility.
We are excited to announce that we are looking for a Full Time, Medical Receptionist 1 at Jersey Shore Gastroenterology in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a customer service or administrative role, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Basic proficiency with computer systems and electronic health record (EHR) software.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Certification as a Medical Receptionist or Medical Administrative Assistant.
- Experience with specific EHR platforms such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare billing processes.
- Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the community.
- Training in customer service or patient relations within a healthcare setting.
- Greet and welcome patients and visitors promptly and courteously upon arrival.
- Manage patient appointment scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Verify patient information, update records, and ensure accuracy of demographic and insurance data.
- Answer incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and direct calls to appropriate medical or administrative personnel.
- Collect and process patient co-payments and other payments as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Coordinate with clinical staff to prepare patients for appointments and communicate any delays or changes.
- Perform general administrative duties such as filing, faxing, and managing correspondence.
The Medical Receptionist 1 utilizes strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare staff, ensuring clear and compassionate exchanges. Organizational skills are essential for managing appointment schedules, patient records, and administrative tasks efficiently, minimizing wait times and errors. Proficiency with EHR software and general computer literacy enable the receptionist to accurately enter and retrieve patient data, supporting clinical workflows.
Attention to detail is critical when verifying patient information and processing payments to maintain data integrity and compliance with healthcare regulations. Additionally, problem-solving skills help the receptionist address patient concerns and unexpected scheduling conflicts promptly, contributing to a positive patient experience.
