Position Summary

The Materials Management Technician assists the Director of Materials Management in operating the Materials Management Department in the most efficient and cost‑effective manner.

Required Skills
  • Knowledge of operating a personal computer and related software
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; familiarity with the organization and functions of each hospital department
  • Ability to problem‑solve effectively and handle stress in a positive manner
  • Maintain harmonious relationships with nursing personnel, medical staff, hospital administration, and all hospital departments
Essential Functions
  • Reconcile pricing/quantity/item discrepancies for non‑storeroom orders placed through CSC (Customer Service Center – Nashville, TN)
  • Forward necessary price adjustments and updates to the SMART item master to CSC; process special purchase requests, scan and file documentation through GHX as necessary
  • Maintain, order, and stock designated clean supply areas according to predetermined schedule
  • Check for expiring product and update departmental SMART PARS with product changes, additions and deletions
  • Check SMART backorder file against pending purchasing file; contact vendor on backorders
  • Work with recalls as backup for MM Specialist, notifying appropriate departments, reporting to EOC, and obtaining new product
  • Pull items from storeroom as necessary
  • Set up new items through VIRA as needed
  • Print charge labels for storeroom billable items as needed and ensure contract compliance
  • Compile reports including Optiflex activity report as directed by Materials Manager
  • Maintain tissue/bone receiving log
  • Backup for ordering all stock items and for delivering items
  • Work closely with Director of Materials Management on new projects as they arise
  • Research items for Department Managers to find best items for them with contract pricing, samples; issue pagers as backup, maintain pager list and notify appropriate personnel of any changes
  • Check and approve staple orders as needed for all departments and all off‑site facilities
  • Help conduct year‑end inventory for all supply areas
  • Answer the telephone, direct calls, and take messages
  • Cross‑train on all aspects of the Purchasing office
  • Work well with others; assist coworkers when needed; comply with supervisor's requests; communicate well with personnel, patients, visitors, and physicians
  • Functional Demands: physical ability as walking, standing, sitting, etc.; mental activity and problem‑solving; may be exposed to injury and hazardous materials; ability to lift up to 75 pounds; read/write regularly to follow job description
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; 2 years experience in materials handling or purchasing (preferred)
