The role is based in the Ageing and Movement Research Group (AMRG), a multidisciplinary team led by Associate Professor Dr Emily Henderson. The overall aim of AMRG is to improve the care of older adults with complex disease, developing models of care and training that address the increasing societal and clinical needs of an ageing population.

The postholder will support the programme through the application of a range of techniques and/or to collect and analyse data that enable the project to progress. This position involves working supervised and unsupervised, including undertaking training and development to gain the necessary skills and experience to become a Research Associate with support and guidance from the line manager and the project team.

Please note this is a full‑time post and applications for part‑time will not be considered.

Research Responsibilities
  • Conduct experiments or other forms of research studies with access to guidance and direct supervision from other members of staff but may be required to operate with some level of independence.
  • Collect and record data from experiments or other forms of research studies such as interviews and field visits, ensuring that protocols and practices are adhered to, thereby enabling results to be valid and useful for the project.
  • Make a limited contribution to the design of the experiments or other forms of research studies, or amendments to protocols, in consultation with a senior project team member.
  • Analyse data and present the results orally or in writing to the line manager and the project team as required.
  • Contribute to the writing up of research results and/or methods for publications developed by the manager and the project team.
Administration Responsibilities
  • May contribute to the administrative infrastructure of the group to ensure that projects operate effectively and efficiently.
  • Will be responsible for the occasional training and supervision of others within the group (including students) to ensure safety and correct application of techniques.
  • Will drive their own professional development and, with the support of the manager, look for opportunities to develop skills, knowledge and experience.
  • Will take responsibility for administrative work associated with their research; for example, organising meetings, taking minutes and meeting notes, recording recruitment data, and uploading to relevant electronic repositories, systems and databases.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience of working in a clinical research setting, especially with people with Parkinson’s.
  • Demonstrable expertise in research methodology and data analysis.
  • Ability to use information technology effectively and manage data intelligently, e.g. by using STATA or R.
  • Experience in using REDCap or equivalent databases.
  • A first‑class degree in neuroscience.
  • Committed to working compassionately and sensitively with vulnerable research participants, including patients and caregivers.
  • Clear and confident communicator, ideally with experience of presenting research to both academics and lay audiences.
Contract and Work Details

Contract type: Fixed Term for 6 months from start date (start ideally 26/01/2026).

Work pattern: Full‑time / 1.0 FTE.

Grade: H.

Salary: 35,608‑39,906 per annum.

School/Unit: Bristol Medical School.

Shift pattern: 35 hours a week.
