The Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Business Support Officer to join the Safeguarding Adults Board. The Safeguarding Adults Board is an astatutory multi‑agency partnership whose remit is to lead adult safeguarding arrangements across North Somerset and to oversee and coordinate the effectiveness of the safeguarding work of our member organisations and partner agencies. The NSSAB is seeking a highly organised and enthusiastic individual who will help develop the administrative functions within the board.

The successful candidate will work closely with the NSSAB Manager to ensure all administrative tasks and business is maintained to a high standard.

In this role, you will work as a member of the NSSAB providing practical, business, and administrative support to the Board Manager and Independent Chair. The post holder is required to provide business and administrative support to the multi‑agency risk management coordinator as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enabling the business by delivering effective business support to the NSSAB.
  • Organising meetings for the NSSAB.
  • Preparing agendas and supporting papers for meetings under the instruction of the Board Manager, setting the annual diary for the SAB and sub‑groups, booking venues, sending invites, coordinating the agenda, minutes and papers and recording minutes and actions.
  • Providing administrative support for safeguarding adult reviews and helping to process to run smoothly and in line with policy.
  • General office duties, i.e. setting up, managing spreadsheets and databases to meet NSSAB requirements.
Work Style

At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.

This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:

  • 2-3 days in the office
  • Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
  • Training is provided to help balance work‑life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in‑office days for collaboration.
About You

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about adult safeguarding and who possesses the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria
  • GCSE grade C in English Language and Mathematics (or recognised equivalent).
  • High standard of organisational, administrative and communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi‑agency partnership. Previous experience of working with people from other teams and organisations and a good understanding of various systems and work practices.
  • Experience of minute taking at complex & large meetings.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of working within a safeguarding adults context.
  • Experience of contributing to new systems, processes and procedures.
