Help Shape a New Special School from Day One

Opening in Autumn 2026, this new specialist school will provide an exceptional educational environment for children and young people aged 5–19 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced Primary Teacher to join a brand-new school at the very beginning of its journey. As part of the founding team, you will play a key role in establishing a nurturing, ambitious, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil is empowered to achieve their potential.

With capacity for 96 pupils, the school will offer personalised education, specialist support, and meaningful opportunities for learners to thrive both academically and personally.

The Role

As a Primary Teacher, you will deliver engaging, high-quality learning experiences tailored to the individual needs of pupils with autism and associated needs. Working alongside a skilled multi-disciplinary team, you will create a positive and supportive classroom environment that promotes confidence, independence, and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and deliver differentiated lessons that meet a wide range of learning needs.
Set personalised learning targets and monitor pupil progress.
Provide accurate feedback and reporting to parents, carers, and senior leaders.
Lead and develop a curriculum or subject area.
Support and direct classroom support staff to maximise pupil outcomes.
Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and equality practice.
Contribute to the development of a positive school culture from its inception.
As the school is currently in the development phase, site visits are not yet possible. However, informal conversations about the opportunity are welcomed.

About You

We are seeking a passionate and experienced teacher who is committed to achieving the best outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs.

Essential Qualifications

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

Essential Experience and Skills

Proven experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ideally including Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Strong understanding of the National Curriculum, including progression towards GCSE outcomes.
Excellent classroom management, planning, assessment, and differentiation skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues.
Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
A commitment to inclusive education and personalised learning.

Desirable

Postgraduate qualification in Autism, SEND, or a related specialism.
Previous experience working within a specialist or special school setting.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
